Carling Cup

The Carling Cup 4th round draw has certainly been kind to City this time around with us facing a relatively easy game against the 'Iron'. I believe the last time we played these lot Blobby Fowler served up a hat-trick back in '06! The rest of the draw is as follows;

Blackburn Rovers v Peterborough United
Manchester City v Scunthorpe United
Tottenham Hotspur v Everton
Barnsley v Manchester United
Chelsea v Bolton Wanderers
Sunderland v Aston Villa
Arsenal v Liverpool
Portsmouth v Stoke City

The fact that Arsenal play Liverpool and Tottenham play Everton should come as welcome news to all Blues harbouring hopes of our first trophy in donkey's years. With 2 of these 4 out, our chances of silverware should skyrocket should we overcome arguably the weakest opponents still left in the competition.

Hughes has gone on record about the club's (and by club he means his) need for success sooner rather than later. His team selection against Fulham in the last round was a message to the whole competition that City are in it to win it, which is great news for us fans. A tired looking squad overcame that hurdle albeit after extra time through a headed winner from newly made captain Kolo Toure.

Its great to see a captain deliver personally on his pre-match promises, even if he does use "really" and "important" in his interviews more times than Jordan changes fellas.

The Carling Cup is our best bet for silverware this year and along the FA Cup should be more than achievable with the preset squad and the inevitable arrivals(should injuries occur) in January. I'd be happy with a top 4 finish and a cup win, and on this season's evidence so far that is not just a Blue-tinted fantasy.

The Blue Moon is definitely rising.
